What Does It Take to Succeed?

Success rarely begins with perfection. It begins with a simple but powerful decision: to try your best.
From there, something remarkable happens. When you commit to doing your best, you begin to sharpen the skills that truly matter — the ability to think critically, to observe the world around you, and to communicate clearly what you see and hear. These are not just academic skills; they are life skills. And they can be learned.

That is where Independent Youth Press (IYP) comes in. IYP is more than a programme — it is an incubator for young, emerging talent. It is designed for students who look at life with curiosity, energy, and a strong sense of possibility. Through IYP, learners gain real insight into how the media works and how to tell authentic, meaningful stories about the communities they know best.

Our vision is bold and exciting: to establish a student news bureau in every high school, all connected through a dynamic central digital platform focused on hyper-local news. In other words, the stories that matter most — the ones happening right where you live — finally get the attention they deserve.
Specially selected students are invited to join their school’s Press Club, working alongside a dedicated Champion Teacher. Together, they participate in the IYP Certification Programme, where they train to become confident, ethical student reporters.

This is your space to find your voice. Imagine carrying your own Press Card. Imagine building a personal portfolio of published work before you even reach matric. Imagine showing future universities, employers, and your community that you stepped forward, paid attention, and tried your very best to tell the story of where you live.

If you are curious about the world around you. If you enjoy asking questions. If you believe young people should be heard. Then Independent Youth Press is ready for you. Your story starts here
